Several vehicles were involved in a crash around 4:30 a.m. Friday, one of which was a Stearns County deputy.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says they got word of an accident on Interstate-94 in Avon Township that involved several vehicles.
While the Minnesota State Patrol and a Stearns County deputy were responding to the scene, police say an eastbound semi tractor-trailer lost control and hit the patrol car.
The Associated Press says the semi clipped the rear end of the patrol car after skidding on the icy road. The squad car was parked on the side of the road with its emergency lights on at the time. The collision sent both vehicles into a ditch, and the jackknifed truck closed eastbound traffic until about 9 a.m., according to the AP.
The deputy — identified as Steve Mathews of St. Cloud — was in the car at the time and was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He was released a few hours later.
